What is a Cluster Model?
Please click on the "Cluster Model Explained" link below to learn more about this model that will be in place during the school year 2024-2025.
Cluster Model Explained
Comprehensive Gifted Program
Prussing Elementary School offers a Comprehensive Gifted Program. It is designed to provide a challenging, accelerated program for the top 1/3rd of the students in First through Eighth grade. The CGP promotes curriculum acceleration and differentiation to meet the needs of our students.
The Comprehensive Gifted Program establishes and maintains a high quality curriculum that is accelerated one-half to one year depending on grade level. It is offered to students in our Prussing student population.
Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, our first and second grades will be designed with the cluster model, having a group of accelerated students placed within each of the classrooms. This will allow for enrichment and exposure to all students who may later demonstrate the ability to quickly grasp concepts and learn at a faster pace.
Our teachers are currently in pursuit of training, completing on-going or have received endorsements. Teachers use best practices for instructing gifted children. Our program challenges the students who consistently demonstrate superior general reasoning ability and/or potential to excel in academic areas.
Students are identified using a multi-pronged process, based on academic grades, standardized test scores (I-Ready and Star 360), CAT scores for primary grades, and teacher recommendations. There is a weighted matrix which is currently being redefined to ensure no child is overlooked.
