Absence Protocol
***School year 2024-2025, families, please report your child's absence at: E-ABSENCE.

As in the past years, and if you do not have access to Parent Portal in Aspen, please do the following:
Parents and/or guardians are requested to email your child’s homeroom teacher AND call the school at (773) 534-3460 (Option #3) before 8:15 a.m. to report the absence of their child for any reason.
In the event a student is absent from school and the school is not notified, parents/guardians will receive an automated call from the Board of Education. A letter (or note) signed by the parent/guardian explaining the reason for the absence is required (Note: Text messages and emails are not a valid form of communication).
If a signed letter/note is not provided or the school not contacted at (773) 534-3460 (Option #3), the absence is considered unexcused. The following are considered excused absences by the Board of Education:

- Student illness
- Family emergency
- Death in the immediate family
- Observation of religious holidays
- Circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent or legal guardian for the safety or health of the students; determined by principal/designee on a case by case basis.
- Other situations beyond the control of the student as determined by the principal on a case-by-case basis, including but not limited to homelessness and its attendance difficulties.
Please note: Absences indicated below are also deemed EXCUSED:
- Sounding "Taps" at a military honors funeral held in this State for a deceased veteran.
- A student’s parent or legal guardian is an active duty member of the uniformed services and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat-support postings.
