Dr. George Chipain - Principal
Dr. George Chipain holds a B.A. in Psychology from Concordia University, an M.B.A. from DePaul University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Roosevelt University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from DePaul University.
He has been an educator with the Chicago Public Schools for 23 years. For fourteen years, he was a classroom teacher. He was the Assistant Principal at O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy where he worked for three years. While at Thorp, he helped lead the school to become number one in growth for mathematics and number four in growth in reading out of the forty schools in Network 1. He supported the implementation of project-based learning protocols that focused on facilitating creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication for all students. He also brought in a number of different programs and partnerships with corporations, universities, institutions, and community organizations. In addition, he worked with parents, the alderman’s office, and community partners to help the school community build a new playground at Thorp Academy.
Dr. Chipain also worked at the Network level as a Math and Science Instruction Coach for five years, where he led the district in math and science performance for 34 schools that serviced 24,000 students, who spoke 83 languages.
Dr. Chipain has been an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate College of Education at DePaul University for twelve years where he has taught thirteen different courses.
Personally, Dr. Chipain is the son of Greek immigrant parents. His wife, Asemena, is a literacy teacher and they have a child named Constantine. In his spare time, he enjoys reading great books, golfing, fishing, exercising, and spending time with his family.
